“Podcasts, blogs and books can polish your rep … and attract more business!”

But who has time to do all that writing?

Greetings,

Ever wonder how they do it?  How do busy celebrities, CEOs and other professionals manage tDGC_CDo write books, articles and update their blogs …

… all while making public appearances and generating a few hundred thousand dollars (if not millions) running a business?  I know their secret.  And I’ll share it in a moment.

But first, let’s face some facts:

  •  Podcasts increase web traffic and polish a reputation
  • Strategic content on blogs expands public awareness of your talent & POV
  • The 5 most powerful words in business are “I am the author of …”

So how do the elite do it all?  They don’t!  Here’s the secret:  Some very powerful people believe in ghosts.  They just don’t admit it in public.

Celebrities like Hilary Clinton, blues icon Buddy Guy and Sarah Palin have used ghostwriters to create best-selling books and blogs … but you don’t have to be famous to get some help and great results!

Consider a few of my clients:

  •  A solar architect traveled to India for 9 days … when he returned home 3 new 500-word articles featuring his byline were waiting.
  •  A real estate developer spent 4 weeks in Hawaii … while I wrote his memoir.
  •  A brand designer who travels the globe now blogs to a select audience.  How does she find time?  She doesn’t.  She has a partner me.

My name is Douglas Glenn Clark.  I am a ghostwriter and corporate storyteller.  I have created content of all kinds for businesses, CEOs, entrepreneurs and sole proprietors — busy people with a desire to reach out.

“As self-publishing gains cachet, more business people are looking at books as effective promotional tools.  The actual writing often is the hardest part.  For first-timers, many publishing firms offer research and ghostwriting services.”                                                                                –   Inc. magazine

Out of time does not mean out of luck!

Hire a ghostwriter and double your productivity.

“I am very pleased with your services.  Your endless creativity and ability to meet tough deadlines continues to impress me.”                                                                                           –   Jeff Elliott, president, PowerPR

Books: memoir, fiction or business Share your story to build reputation, awareness of your expertise and, in some cases, a new revenue stream.

Press releases may be posted with online directories that quickly spread the word and sometimes are picked up by online publications, such as the Wall Street Journal and Forbes. Newsletters, packed with info, keep the conversation going with fans and consumers.

Company or personal blog is not merely a place to express opinions. Speak to your audience with helpful insights and you’ll build traffic to your website and products.

Podcasts can reap big benefits. Let me help you reach out to commuters, business travelers and consumers with a recorded interview.

“Your stuff got some really great exposure for us.  Pickups like thes (e.g. Forbes and Wall Street Journal) are great ammunition for us!”                Mike Bearden, marketing dir., CaseCruzer

Few business leaders have the time to write a book, blog or narrative for podcasts.   These activities may seem like indulgences when you’re running an entire company.

But they are necessities in today’s business environment.

Do you have time for a short chat?  Let’s discuss your unique story and the best way to share it.  Strategic storytelling builds brand!

FREE ‘Little R-E-D Dress’ May 7 – One Day Only! The suspense of lyrical language

Little.RED.3_coverb

Fairy tales can be scary.  All those dark happenings and cruel people.

Yet children survive them.  Movies are made from them.  Libraries still loan them.

My goals was to create an adult story that refers to a well-known fairy tale but then twists it into a tale of revenge.

The language is for adults.  Rich with imagery, illusions to a story most of us grew up with, and then a desperate call to nature to make things right.

Entertainment Ghostwriter

Story Consultant

Many actors and new producers don’t realize they can hire a skilled Writers Guild of America member without huge up-front costs.  Various contracts allow for this.    argo-movie-poster

I am a WGA member who has written or ghostwritten screenplays and teleplays for independent ventures.  It would be my pleasure to help you make your dream project come true.

  • Spec TV Pilot Script Consultation : $195
  • Spec Screenplay Consultation:  $350
  • Hourly Script/Story Consultation: $65 per

Fees for creating an original screenplay are based on the client’s budget, expectations of raising funds to go to camera, and WGA guidelines.

For example, the WGA Low Budget Film Contract ($1.2 million budget or lower) allows me to defer a large portion of my fee until the project is underway.  This means you can get the script written while seeking venture capital.

There is also contractual flexibility for Indie producers who wish to create TV projects.

The digital publishing revolution has provided ample opportunity for writers and readers.   One of the trends I like is the emerging popularity of shorter works.

This means we don’t have to labor for years creating a long novel.  Short stories, essays, How-to guides and useful information all have a home at Amazon Kindle.

Readers enjoy a story that can be consumed on a subway ride or short flight.  Sometimes a little entertainment, insight and guidance is the brightest part of your reader’s day.

#FREE ‘The Memory Songbook’ April 14 — One Day Only!

Song creates and then inspires memory.

The soundtrack in your head is memory.

The soundtrack in your head is memory.

Memory inspires and creates the future.

That’s the inspiration for The Memory Songbook, my novel about a #babyboomer singer-songwriter who believes he has no future, because he lives so much in the past.

Babyboomers are in a curious position.  They live in 3 dimensions: The past, NOW, and the future.
They are especially vulnerable, I believe, to regret and longing for The Summer of Love, because these days many must care for a parent who is on the down slope of life. They know they are next: life won’t last forever.

Music is the common denominator for the past, present and future. It delights every generation.  And the song list of every generation endures because the soundtrack in our heads is memory.

Although the death of Google Reader may be  shocking,  stay in touch with this blog and others by considering these swell alternatives.

Babyboomer Author and Reader Connect via Kindle Direct Publishing: ‘The Memory Songbook’

Not everyone will love our books.  We know that going into this  A_new_MemSongbook_coverprofession.

But we want everyone to love our books.  We want praise and financial reward and immortality.  Or a modest blend of “all of the above.”

Tonight, after reading The Memory Songbook review by Patricia Kenworthy, I realized what I prized most about sharing story:  connection.

I wrote my novel about a babyboomer songwriter who must reckon with his youth, midlife and an aging parent.for people like Patricia.  A mid-lifer who has much to be grateful for and yet also faces the challenges of memory, love and family responsibility.

Niche Audience for Kindle Direct Publishing Indie Authors

Indie authors don’t need everybody to love their books.  But they do need an audience.  Finding those readers who most likely will appreciate our stories is not easy.  And yet it is much more likely, if we’ll make the effort, than in any other time in the history of publishing.

We have Kindle Direct Publishing and other outlets to help us promote to our niche.  We can name our category, build our list of books — and then reach out to the readers who might actually value what we do, even if they download our books on a FREE promo day.

Shared experience is a profound bond.  A book is the vessel that can help make that happen with a hundred or even a million people that authors might otherwise never get to meet.

I should be so lucky to find a reader like Patricia for every book I ever write.  At least one person (though, in this case, there are others) who get it.  Who says yes.  Who may begin with doubts but finish with appreciation.

Short Book, Long Legacy: Why You Cannot Ignore Brand Publishing When Building Your Business

The themes of these books range from blues music to teen life coaching and view law tips for residential real estate.

Yet they share one very important similarity. Blues

They build audience for products, services and intangibles.   Mark Hummer is using his book to expand his reputation as a veteran blues musician.  His tell-all autobiography about life on the road is creating more media opportunities and a new income stream.

ROY.dry basementRoy Spencer has built a very successful business in Chicagoland.   His book tells a bit about the early years of building an empire, and answers lots of  frequently asked questions.

Roy’s “Healthy Home” book is free, but it brings in revenue when new clients choose his business over his competitors.  (Maybe they need a book, too.)

Sandra Dupont loves working with teenaged girls and helping them through the difficult adolescent years.  Initially, she shared a free PDF of her book, which is also available in paperback  at Amazon.  The freebie inspired mothers to form counseling groups for their daughters, who shared similar challenges.

SD

Sandra’s book not only expanded her client list, it helped build a national profile for her expertise.

SueCHEN

Sue Chen, on the other hand, was inspired to share her observations about people of all ages who have mobility issues.

Her “Walker Stalker” title also takes to task an industry that can’t seem to look beyond the “hospital gray” design of walkers, canes and other important equipment.  Sue is on a mission.  Her compassionate, informative  and entertaining book is a call to action.

Charles F. Peterson is a pioneer in the area of view restoration law.  His free book is educational.   CFP FREE BOOK COVERIt offers legal tips for homeowners who may find themselves in a tricky view rights debate with a neighbor or municipality.

Charlie is an expert in a field that is only now beginning to grow in California  His book positions him as a leading voice in a new niche market.

Publishing Consultant / Ghostwriter

I have played a role in creating each of these books, with the exception of Mark’s autobiography.  I met Mark through a friend, and I’m very impressed with what he has done.

Sometimes I merely offer consultation services.   Or I may write a first draft for a busy CEO or entrepreneur, and then hand it over so they can revise and polish as they wish.

Often, lack of time is what keeps interesting people from finishing their book.  There are also some misconceptions that stifle creativity.  Let’s bust those myths right now.

  1. My book must be long.  Nonsense.  It can be as long or short as needed.  The indie revolution means you can start with a short book and add to it later, if you wish.  Find you niche.  Your book serves your niche.
  2. My book must be a New York Times Bestseller to have an impact.  Nonsense.  None of the books listed above is on the NYT radar, yet each book has served a community and helped the authors expand brand.
  3. My expertise is not interesting to readers.  Nonsense.  It is plenty fascinating to the people who need your knowledge and expertise.
  4. My book won’t earn royalties.  That’s not why you write a book.  Your book expands brand, public awareness.  It pays for itself by bringing new clients to your company.

FREE 30-minute consultations are available, if you wish to go to my contact page and leave me a message.   “I am the author of …” is a powerful way of introducing yourself.  And a book is often the most valuable marketing content you’ll ever create.

The world wants to hear from you!   Make 2013 The Year of Your Book!

#FREE @ Amazon Feb 21 Only! Douglas Glenn Clark’s ‘The Lake That Stole Children’

A LAKE COVER

The Lake That Stole Children blends the dark mysteries of Grimm’s Fairy Tales with the modern challenges young people face today.

The goal was to give young adult readers a harrowing thriller, but in a style that could be included in Grimm’s Fairy Tales.  I also wanted to create an adventure book that unites readers of all ages, even as it dramatizes the bonds so easily lost between parent and child.

Synopsis:  The children in a quiet Michigan lake town go missing, yet no one is talking.  Then the voice of a reclusive fisherman’s lost son is heard keening in the night.  And the townspeople realize they can no longer bear to keep quiet about their troubling secret.

We all disappear into sadness for one reason or another.  And sometimes it’s hard to find our way back to contentment.  Stories provide the bridge.  Especially stories like Grimm’s Fairy Tales that aren’t afraid of shadows and paradox.

This redemptive tale has attracted teachers and parents who say they have found The Lake That Stole Children suitable for reading aloud to young audiences.

Life lessons in the original fable revolve around the themes of love, anger, freedom and forgiveness.  It begins with a sensitive boy’s deep yearning for exciting experiences.  It concludes only after his fierce and protective father has gone to battle with a frightening force of nature – and himself.

Like many of the legendary narratives in Grimm’s Fairy Tales, The Lake That Stole Children merges enchantment with temptation.
